Important Pandemic Information

2020-11-30T14:10:41-08:00

Ladies of the Household, Units, and Clubs,

We received a letter with information to consider should your group opt to have fundraisers in the current state of affairs. In light of this pandemic, our Nile insurance carrier has circulated the following very important information to consider:

When you say “every precaution” is being taken, question the points of this list. Does it include these points?

1. Will all the organizers be tested and receive results prior to the event?
2. Will you ensure 6 feet of space between attendees?
3. Is the venue disinfected prior to the event?
4. Will you require wearing of masks?
5. Are you taking the temperature of attendees at the entrance?
6. Have you considered the number of attendees and does it exceed the “crowd” guidelines?

The Chairman of the Supreme Insurance Committee, Georganne Rodgers-Garn, PQ, assures us the carrier will defend a suit but in order to have an affirmative defense, we will need documentation on all the above. She also mentions the adverse effect of negative publicity to us, the venue, and perhaps to the Shriners Hospital.

We strive to make our environment as healthy as possible. We must continue to abide by our pandemic restrictions and limited activities. Miss Covid is certainly making our lives challenging but remember, we are strong women and we will persevere.

Until we meet again,
Queen Holly

Queen Message July 2020

Nydia Queen Holly AustinLast week I had a realization and had made a statement that I was glad I had taken writing classes in school. It’s another thing that I have positive feelings about. Not only did I take writing classes, but I also studied creative writing. I was the editor of the school newspaper so I feel I should be able to write a fabulous piece of literature for your pleasure. But I can’t.

Five years ago I lost my husband, sold our home, and retired. I moved to the family farm where I grew up to care for my mother. I was her companion initially, but over time her confusion and medical condition worsened and I lost her a year ago. Caring for my dear mother was one of the most positive experiences of my life. We laughed and cried together. Why did I do it? Because I could.

My story here is that life is constantly evolving. Nothing is static; nothing is predictable. There are times I feel I could write a book, that my fingers are flying across the keyboard, telling a story. There are times when my fingers are stone cold at the keyboard, mind blank. Things change, life changes.

Perhaps I am feeling nostalgic right now. This week my five siblings and I are dividing up the balance of my parents’ “things.” I feel it creeping up on me, an anxious feeling of finality.

And now, back to my positive attitude. We have so many things to be positive about. I am happy that I have been active in several organizations and have a large circle that I consider friends. I am happy that someday we will step out of this Corona virus and will be able to meet in groups of larger than 10 or even 25! I am happy that I live in the country and awaken to birds chirping or hens laying eggs. I even enjoy my sister’s dog coming to visit me every morning, frequently before I am out of bed.

There are certainly times I feel “down” as I really want to be back to having sessions and enjoy your company. I want to be able to recite my ritual work and to have a real meeting – in person! I know I have several angels around me, keeping me safe and secure. You have your personal angels as well. Let them help you.

You, my friends, are so special. Reach out to touch another life. You can make a difference. You can, you could, you will.

Did You KnowSeptember 2020

1. Did you know that Supreme Temple recognizes the legacy of our members? The Legacy Program is open to Daughters of the Nile members who have either a living or deceased family member(s) who is/was a DON member. A pin and certificate is given to all living members from Supreme Temple. The form to apply for the Legacy Program can be found on the Supreme Website (www.daughtersofthenile.com under the “Forms for the Princess Recorder” tab). Or contact Nydia’s Princess Recorder PQ Jennifer Moyer (503-888-2562 or nydiarecorderno4@gmail.com) for assistance.

2. Did you know that Nydia Temple was recently honored with a 1st place certificate for the Nydian Newsletter? Yes, in the categories of temples with 190+ membership, Nydia Temple received this recognition. Princess Pam Davis works diligently to put together the Nydian Newsletter with articles submitted by members of Nydia Temple. It is posted on the website, and also mailed to each member thru the U. S. Mail. Keeping our ladies informed is important, and this is one of our most important tools; and we’re glad that Supreme Temple sees that too.

3. Did you know that Portland Shriners Hospital was recently recognized to be in the top 50 for Best Children’s Hospitals by U.S. News and World Report? A joint application was submitted along with OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, resulting in being number 44 on the list. Several other Shriners Hospitals for Children locations are also included.
