Nydian Newsletter

2022-05-15T18:31:40-07:00

Ladies of the Household – we’ve been handed some recent sad news and difficulties affecting posting and printing The Nydian.

First, tragically, our long-time website administrator, Randy Shepperd, passed away suddenly about a week ago. Randy was our “go to” for all things related to our Nydia Temple website including posting of The Nydian. We have contracted with Randy’s company for a number of years for this service and he has always been a good partner with Nydia Temple. If there’s a silver lining, it’s that Randy’s business partner has been a trooper and has figured out how to post The Nydian (he’d never done that before) on our website. You can now view the Nydian in all of its colorful glory by clicking on the Newsletters tab.

Our second problem has to do with the printing outlet that we’ve used for many years. Recent changes in business practice and contracted pricing have resulted in an astronomical price increase from less than $100 to print 475 copies to well over $600! Multiply that by 5 and you can see our annual cost for just printing The Nydian is well over $3000. This amount doesn’t even include postage. We will be looking at other vendors who might be able to provide printing services at a more affordable cost.

In the meantime, what can YOU do to help?  Please consider viewing the Nydian on-line rather than receiving a printed copy in the mail. Please email PQ Jennifer Moyer at nydiarecorderno4@gmail.com and let her know of your change to “online only” for viewing The Nydian.  We will continue to mail black and white copies to members who do not have Internet access.

See you on the garden path…and thank you!

Queen Nancy Coddington

May Stated Session

2022-05-06T10:18:04-07:00

Ladies of the Household:

Our next Session is coming up on May 4th   starting at 12:30 pm at the Al Kader Shrine Center.  Last month we welcomed over 40 people to our luncheon and Session – what a wonderful surprise to see so many smiling faces.

This month we are celebrating Nydia Temple’s Birthday (103 years old!) and honoring our Past Queens. Following Session, we will enjoy some cake to commemorate both of these celebrations.

Lunch this month is being prepared by Forest Hills Nile Club. President Winnie Carey informed me we are looking forward to a taco bar (I love tacos). The cost will be $10. Lunch will again be served at 11:15 to allow adequate time to eat, converse and clean up before our 12:30 session start.

I look forward to seeing you all on Nydia’s garden path on the 4th!

Queen Nancy

Fundraising Opportunities

2023-03-30T19:25:18-07:00

Hello Ladies of the Household. As your Queen, I recently approved a list of fundraising opportunities requested by our clubs and units. It’s been a long time since we have been able to actively participate in some of our clubs’ and units’ fundraisers. These fundraisers are essential as they help these groups do everything from meeting their monthly expenses (i.e. rent, postage, etc.) to providing funds for donation through Nydia Temple for sewing, the general fund and the Foundation.

To help everyone plan ahead, below are the fundraising requests made by the clubs and units at the April stated session.

  • Salem Nile Club – annual luncheon in April. Their next luncheon is coming up on April 29th! RSVP to Pr. Tirzah, Linda Hatch. Tickets are $10 each.
  • Woodburn Nile Clubgarage sale on July 9th. Contact President Betty Donnelly for more information.
  • Coastal Nile Club silent auction at the Queen’s club visit on July 26th.
  • Forest Hills Nile Clubmake and sell fabric dolls. Contact President Winnie Carey for more information.
  • HALOS Nile Clubsell items at holiday bazaars, run concession stand at farmers market, and restaurant takeover. Contact President Sylvia Evey or PQ Holly Austin, Pr. Badoura, for more information.
  • NEON Nile Clubsell items at holiday bazaars.
  • Three Sisters Nile Clubsell pecans and sell coffee. Contact President Marlee Frazier for more information.
  • Chorus Unithold a 50/50 raffle in April through June, sell knives at stated session, and hold the Mad Hatters Tea in March. See President Sue Nash for more information.
  • PADIR Dancers Unitresale of gently used formal wear at May stated session. Contact President Barb Wilde for more information.
  • Patrol Unitsell holiday candy and cookies at December stated session, and purse auction at February stated session. Contact President Linda Hatch for more information.

While we call it “fundraising,” I like to think of it as “friend-raising.”  These opportunities are just as important for outreach to members and future members as they are for building up our coffers!  I hope to see you on our garden path!  Queen Nancy

April Stated Session

2022-04-07T12:42:38-07:00

Our first session is just a few days away on April 6th and it promises to be a busy one. I have a couple important reminders for that session.

1) Since our first Ceremonial and Supreme Queen’s visit is on August 27th, our April session is the last opportunity for proposals to be read in time for that event.

So, do you have someone in mind to propose but were waiting for just the right opportunity? That opportunity is NOW!  Just think of how special it would be for that woman to be initiated into our beautiful Order while the Supreme Queen is here. It’s an opportunity that includes performances by our three units, a wonderful banquet that follows and the chance to meet the Supreme Queen. This will make a life-long impression on those new Ladies of the Household.

2) April is the month for fundraising requests! We make these presentations every year to make sure that fundraisers do not occur at the same time. Additionally, fundraisers that are held must report back at the next Nydia Temple Stated Session to let us know what proceeds were gleaned from your efforts. Does your club or unit plan some fundraising this year? I’m assuming – and hope – so! Please have your fundraising requests ready for presentation.

Queen Nancy

Ladies of the Household:

Your officers have been practicing their parts and we’re ready to go for our first Session which will be on Wednesday, April 6th! We’re so excited to be able to meet with you all in person for this new year. You can expect us to be wearing our dresses that we wore at Installation, complete with the corsages that were given to each officer – a Nydia Temple tradition.

So, let’s talk about something that many of us look forward to when we go to Session – food! What’s for lunch? Well, our dear PQ Jennifer Moyer and Pr. Carol Pratt will prepare Chicken Salad Caprese accompanied by French bread and a “surprise” dessert.  The cost will be $10. Lunch will be served at 11:15 to allow adequate time to eat, converse and clean up before our 12:30 session start.

I look forward to seeing you all on Nydia’s garden path on the 6th! Queen Nancy
